Sister Sledge I'm A Good Girl (Atlantic) 1980

Wow. Taken from their 1980 Chic produced album 'Love Somebody Today' this is an absolute gem of a tune. Check it out.

La Rue Wish I Could Find Another (12" Jeep Mix) (RCA) 1991

Another posting for La Rue's 'Wish I Could Find Another'
This seems to be extremely rare these days, I am not sure whether it ever got a proper release as mine is a promo on RCA. Who knows...

Sade No Ordinary Love (Epic) 1992

This is an absolutely fantastic tune from the lovely, sultry Sade. Was on the album 'Love Deluxe' from 1992 which also boasted the other downtempo KILLER 'Cherish The Day' Breathtakingly good music.

Yazz Fine Time (Big Life) 1989

The first time I saw this lady was on the video for 'The Only Way Is Up' which was an early house hit in the UK. This track is much more downtempo and shows her versatility as an artist.

Sister Nancy Bam Bam (Big Beat Bam) (Big Beat) 1993

Respectable remix of Sister Nancy's classic 'Bam Bam'

Eternal Dreams (Frankie Cutlass Remix) (EMI) 1997

The Frankie Cutlass mix of this is wicked! Forgot about this one, thanks to FRV at http://www.back2basics.biz/ This is the UK girl rnb group called Eternal from the mid 90's with Sadat X as well. This is an essential record.

Chantay Savage I Will Survive (BMG) 1996

Wicked cover version of the disco classic 'I Will Survive' originally done by Gloria Gaynor. Chantay Savage has completely made this her own and done a great job of it as well. The Kay Fingers Extended Remix is a mix for the street and the original album mix begins with an accapella intro then is more smoothed out. Two brilliant mixes and a great alternative to Gloria's original camp classic for those who just can't handle it..

Mantronix Step To Me (Do Me) (Capitol) 1991

Old skool Mantronix!!

Mantronix Step To Me (Do Me)

Big Daddy Kane Very Special (Cold Chillin') 1993

Big tune from one of the best rap artists there ever was. Big Daddy Kane did many styles within his career, this was one of his 'loverman' type raps and had some wicked soul vocals on it as well.

Queen Latifah Just Another Day... (Motown) 1994

Another good effort from Queen Latifah. More nice smooth production on this 12"

Queen Latifah Just Another Day...

Queen Latifah UNITY (U.N.I.T.Y.) (Motown) 1993

Love that cool sax on the intro to this..Not sure who produced this tune but with the bassline it almost sounds like Pete Rock or someone similar? Conscious rap which still sounds good now-if only for the memories..

Queen Latifah UNITY (U.N.I.T.Y.)

Neneh Cherry Manchild (Circa) 1989

Top drawer album track from Neneh's 'Raw Like Sushi' Hard to believe that it's nearly 20 years old..

Marcus Miller & Me'Shell Ndegéocello Rush Over (Columbia) 1997

Smooth jazzy soul track taken from the Love Jones Soundtrack from 1997. Lovely stuff!

Aaliyah (At Your Best) You Are Love (Jive) 1994

I always thought that this was the best tune she ever did. Her vocals have always been amazing and they really come through on this track. A slice of real soul music. RIP Aaliyah.

The Isley Brothers Between The Sheets (Epic) 1983

WOW! What a killer tune-that riff is amazing. How do these guys make tunes like this? It really is the best! This was famously sampled by Notorious BIG on 'Big Poppa' and has been had numerous times because of its catchy hook. This is a masterpiece in my eyes..

The Isley Brothers Between The Sheets

Rose Royce Magic Touch (Streetwave) 1984

Wicked 80's soul grooves. Produced by Nick Martinelli this one is pure class. They don't make 'em like this anymore..CLASSIC.

Joyce Sims Walk Away (Come Into My Life) (Sleeping Bag) 1988

You've heard the saying 'don't judge a book by it's cover' Never has that been so true as in this case. That's possibly the worst album cover I have ever seen...the UK issue was a lot better.. This is a track taken from the fantastic album 'Come Into My Life' by Joyce Sims. I thought Mantronix produced the full album but have just realised that Joyce herself produced this wonderful track plus some others on the album as well. The whole album is sh*t hot and this is an ABSOLUTE MUST for your collection. (OK, 'Love Makes A Woman' sticks out a little bit...)

Billy Lawrence Paradise (East West) 1997

I have not got a clue what the tune 'Up & Down' is? It was the beautiful song called 'Paradise' that immediately took my attention. Billy Lawrence has the sweetest most angelic vocals you will ever hear and the production/instrumentation on this track suits her down to the ground. This is a lovely tune.

The Sounds Of Blackness I'm Going All The Way (AM PM) 1993

Funny one this..I always thought this was pretty non-descript at the time but after having a little listen I have realised that it is quite tasty.. The 7" radio mix seems to have the toughest beats as well which is another surprise. Of course The Sounds Of Blackness are most famous for their classic 'banger' 'Optimistic' and also the laidback 'Black Butterfly' but this tune is definitely worth a listen...not surprising given the immense vocal talent of this group..

Lloydie Crucial All Night (KGR) 1995

The ragga soul crossover with Mary J Blige samples. Big thanks to FRV at http://back2basics.biz/ on this track!

Patrice Rushen Remind Me (Elektra) 1984

So so smooth this record. I wish they made them like this these days, this is perfect for a relaxing Sunday. Beautiful vocals and almost a gentle feel to the production make this an exceptional piece of music. Breathtakingly good.
