Neneh Cherry Inna City Mama (Remix) 1990

This remix has one of the best and biggest rumbling basslines you'll ever hear-it is truly earth shattering! Fantastic tune from her classic album 'Raw Like Sushi' Maybe could have done without the rap but that was the style in those days. In any case it can be edited out with any decent sound recording software.(Which I did..)

Erykah Badu On & On (Universal) 1997

First track on Erykah Badu's amazing Baduizm. I played this over and over again in 1997. The real sh*t.

Aretha Franklin Rock Steady

Heavyweight.

Stevie Wonder Ribbon In The Sky

I want to cry but not sure why. This record is truly amazing. There is not a more talented musician on the planet than Stevie Wonder. If you play this it will be the best 5 minutes of your day.

Roy Ayers - Brand New Feeling

Was just listening to the soulful house remix of this and hunted down the original. This sounds amazing! Roy Ayers really is the man...

Tom Brock - There Is Nothing In This World That Can Stop Me

Instantly recognisable as the sample Jay Z looped up to great effect on 'Girls' 70's soul - gotta love it..

Mica Paris - Should've Known Better

Imagine my surprise when a colleague at work kindly pointed out that I'd missed out the best ever Mica Paris track! I still can't believe I left 'Shouldn't Known Better' off here, this is one of the backbones to the blog. A true 1990's vinyl classic. I'm still not convinced it isn't here somewhere underneath all these layers of music. Well I thank my good friend for his pedantry and also respect his musical knowledge. Oh, and also give thanks that he recorded the Claudia Patrice from vinyl for me. Still, I'd love to find that tune on an earlier post just to prove him wrong.. (grrrrr) This was a B Side track and a real cool cut. Some nice sounds in this, it's hard not to pinpoint the bassline as the driving force, but then that does the vocals an injustice...and the lazy beats...mmmmmm...Decide for yourself..But most of all, enjoy.

Jill Scott - Love Rain (Hidden Beach) 2000

Sweet memories of Jill Scott's first album - Who Is Jill Scott - Words and Sounds Vol 1. Was it really 9 years ago when I sat on my bed, put this in the CD player and was quite literally blown away?

The Rurals It's You (Peng) Oct 2008

This is pure class. Sometimes I feel like posting soulful house music on this blog as there is so much good stuff about...Andy Compton really comes correct with this tune, well worth checking all The Rurals stuff. He's a nice guy too. Beautiful piece of soul music...Think sun lounger, drink with ice...sunshine...

The Chimes True Love (1990)

The Chimes churned some good tunes out back in 1990, this was one of them.

Claudia Patrice - Forever (1990)

Thanks

I Just want to say thanks to all the people who've visited the blog since its creation back in August 2007. The original idea was to post up vinyl classics that had no coverage at all on the internet. Most of these were UK soul 12"s mainly heard across pirate radio back in the late 1980's and early 1990's - the true vinyl era!! I have not been with my stack of vinyl for a couple of years now so as you can see the posts have got more Youtube based as I have less time on my hands and no vinyl to hand! I will carry on adding stuff here and this will hopefully always be a shrine to those classic streetsoul days, I also know a lot of people out there are grateful that they can hear Gold In The Shade, Tammy Payne or Lalah Hathaway again..

Since records began (Nov 07) there have been 44028 visits and 123,136 page views. Not too bad considering there's not really much copy on here, I suppose it's all about the music...

Monk Higgins - One Man band Plays All alone

Not only did these tunes supply the beats for many of the classic rap tunes of the 1990's, they are also fantastic in their own right. Check the break out at 2.19..

Inner Life feat Jocelyn Brown - Make It Last Forever

Sounds like Barry White strings, 1980's squelchy keyboard bass and Jocelyn Brown. Great stuff...
