Mona Lisa You Said (Island) 1996
Love this tune. This was from Mona Lisa who was one of the commercial rnb artists of the mid 90's. Despite this, rnb still wasn't as big as it is today and there were many real soul hits from this era-this being one of them alongside Faith Evans' stuff and also the classic Mary J Blige album My Life. Real soul with real emotion. Wicked tune.

Picked this up on a white label in 1996, thought it sounded OK at the time. Wasn't the best time for UK 12"s like this..

Erykah Badu On & On (Universal) 1996
I just couldn't believe at the time when Erykah Badu released her landmark album 'Baduizm' that no one played her tunes? I heard one or two of her tunes on the radio once or twice. This was a life changing album. A massive break from the end of the mid 90's commercial rnb which by 1997 was pretty much over and Puff Daddy took over completely with his sampling of samples that had been sampled before. Maybe people weren't ready..

Thought I might have had enough of this for some reason but it actually sounds quite crisp. Uses the Michael Jackson Liberian Girl sample which gives a nice backdrop for this. Nice.
